Our Story
The idea for Penelope’s Loom grew out of a beautiful friendship between two people who share a deep and abiding love for great conversation, good books, and the pursuit of Christ. Ultimately that’s what this site is: a place to grow in Him, learn from and with one another, and share the joy of the good life.
Our Name
Penelope is one of the most beloved characters of Western Literature. She is the wise, faithful, and patient wife of Odysseus, the main character in Homer’s epic, The Odyssey. Penelope provides the perfect picture for both Christian wives and mothers and the Church. She thwarts the ambitions of the many suitors plaguing her husband’s estate by working steadily at her loom, though she is careful to unravel her work each night to prevent finishing the beautiful shroud too soon, before her husband’s return. In the same way, Christians work steadily at the tasks God has given us in this life, recognizing that the work cannot be completed until our Husband, Christ, comes again to deliver us and restore His kingdom. This site explores the “loom” where we work. It examines and revels in the work given to Christian women here on earth: confessing Christ, making a comfortable home for our families, raising and educating our children, and always learning more.
Who We Are
Katie Saunders
I am a wife and classical educator. I have a passion for great conversations, theology, reading great literature, and learning new things. I grew up in the Midwestern country side and lived about twenty feet from a beautiful, nineteenth century church until I was eighteen. I attended Hillsdale College and graduated in 2012 with a B.A. in History. I spent five years teaching at a classical school in central Wyoming and now enjoy being a homemaker, wife, and lifelong learner.
Shannon Allgeier
I was a teacher in Classical schools for six years following my graduation from Hillsdale College in 2012 (I also earned a B.A. in History). For the past two years, however, my focus has shifted to the homefront. I am blessed to be able to tend to my daughter, feed my husband, and develop my home-making skills on a full-time basis. I have an abiding love for well-paired wine, life-altering conversations, reading, time on skis, hikes with my husband, and Jesus Christ.
