The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Aeneid: List and Links
Read my post about why these stories are so important: I Don’t Know Enough So Where Do I Begin?
Here are a few translations that I recommend:
Richard Lattimore: Iliad and Odyssey - If you aren’t sure, pick Lattimore. His translations are faithful yet readable.
Robert Fitzgerald: Iliad and here’s a link to a great audio version of The Odyssey; Also, The Aeneid
Robert Fagles: Iliad, Odyssey, and Aeneid all in one. You’re welcome!
Emily Wilson: The Odyssey - This is a rather recent translation that I find quite lovely.
If you prefer a retelling that is simpler and just delightful, try these by Rosemary Sutcliff: Black Ships Before Troy and The Wanderings of Odysseus.
